Cottonwood and box-elder trees arenow furnishing an abundance of pol-len, an<l the bees are once more busypreparing for the honey-flow, insteadof robbing their weak ueiglibors, aswas the case early last season ; andnot that alone, for they robbed everymerchant in the city not provided withsereen-doors. Whether or not theabove-mentioned trees yield neetar, Iam unable to say. never having theheart to kill a bee and examine itshoney-sac. Box-elder trees being indigenous tothis State, they are very hardy, growquite fast, are valuable for sugar, andfurnish the first pollen. No trees withwhich I am familiar, have such densefoliage, or put forth leaves so early inthe season, with the exception of crab-apple trees.
