Archaeological excavation. Close-up of the wall being excavated at the Klasies River Caves site in South Africa. This is one of the oldest known sites where remains of anatomically modern humans have been found. This thick accumulation of deposits has provided archaeological specimens that show the people living in this area knew how to hunt small game and fish, gather plants and roots, and cook using hearths.
