Plant woodcut from 1707 edition of: 'Histoire des plantes de l'Europe et des plus usitées qui viennent d'Asie, d'Afrique, et d'Amérique'... After the Pinax of Gaspard Bauhin (1560-1640). [Pub. Jean-Bapt. de Ville]. This was a popular botanical work of the 17th-18th century with many editions, and detailed medicinal uses of hundreds of plants. The pre-Linnean names (often long) shown in the book are provided in the image description along with their modern equivalent scientific name. *** NOTE: This photograph of the woodcut has been digitally processed to remove colour casting of the yellowed paper. However, vestiges of surface debris, ink bleed, and paper blemishes have not been removed or retouched in case an authentic feel to the original image is important to your work.
