A drilling rig operates in the prairie grasslands of Southern Alberta next to Jumping Pound Creek near Calgary in a resource based energy economy

A drilling rig operates in the prairie grasslands of Southern Alberta next to Jumping Pound Creek, which is just outside of Calgary. Drilling rigs and Service rigs are a common sight across Alberta. Oil and gas activity in the Albertan oilfield has slowed recently, but the search for more energy efficient power sources will not stop the need for non renewable sources such as coal bed methane or natural gas anytime soon.
