Sociable weaver nest. Nest built by a sociable weaver (Philetairus socius) bird colony in a camel thorn acacia tree (Acacia erioloba). The sociable weaver builds large communal nests providing shelter for up to 400 birds from the extreme temperatures of their savannah habitat. The nest is thatched (not woven) from grass, straw and twigs. Photographed in Witsands Nature Reserve, Northern Cape, South Africa.
