Sadhu In Akhara Tent, Kumbh Mela, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA – 22/04/2016. In 2016, Kumbh Mela, the sacred holy pilgrimage of Hinduism, took place in Ujjain. Kumbh Mela happens in Ujjain when the sun is in the zodiac sign Aries (Mesha) and Jupiter in the zodiac sign Leo (Simha), which occurs only once every twelve years. On April 22, the day of Shahi Snaan (the Royal Holy Dip), Sadhus and devotees bathe in River Shipra. Sadhus of the same Akhara stay together in tents during one month for the entire duration of the Mela. They continue to lead their ordinary ascetic lives and are a source of enlightenment for the 50 million pilgrims who attend the event.
