In the case of rates which the occupier of agriculturalland has hitherto paid iu full, or in the proportion of morethan half, he will during the five years commencing onApril 1, 1897, bo liable to pay one half only of the rate in thopound payable on buildings and other hereditaments. Thispartial exemption will, however, not apply to rates assessedundei any commission of sewers or in respect of any drainage,wall, embankment, or other work for the benefit of the expression agricultural land means any land used asarable, meadow, or pasture ground only, cottage gardens ex-. ceeding one quarter of an acre, market gardens, nurserygrounds, orchards, or allotments, but does not include landoccupied together with a house as a park, gardens other thanas aforesaid, pleasure grounds, or any land kept or preservedmainly or exclusively for purposes of sport or recreation, orland used as a racecourse.
