The volcano is an important part of the spiritual lives of nearby inhabitants. ?The locals believe Pashupati, an incarnation of the Hindu god Shiva, formed the volcano from part of Mount Meru, the spiritual axis of the universe,? said Toala Olivares. Since Shiva is one of the principal deities in the Hindu religion ? her role is to destroy the world so it can be re-created again ? one of the largest and most holy Hindu temples in Bali, Pura Besakih, was built on the slopes of Gunung Agung, or ?The Great Mountain?. Ecuador: THIS EXTRAORDINARY new photo-book showcases one man?s eight-year quest to document the lives of people who live alongside natures most destructive force ? active volcanos. One photo shows a plume of smoke and ash spouting from the top of Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador while a local boy watches, swinging carefree on a tree swing as the volcano spits out fumes. Living With Volcanoes is a photo book by Cris Toala Olivares, a documentary photographer. Cris visited 13 different volcanoes, from Iceland to Indonesia, since the eruption of his local volcano, Tungurahua, in Ecuador in 2014. ?Tungurahua in my native country Ecuador was the first volcano that became a subject for my pictures, and it inspired my journey around the world,? said Cris in his book. ?Not long after we reached the treehouse where Sánchez monitors the volcano and has built a swing from which people can view it, a series of eruptions started. ?I was scared but I tried to whisper to the volcano that I just wanted to catch her best side, like a painter might say when trying to depict a person. ?There was a gentle evening light descending as the ash cloud swirled and I was able to take some fantastic portraits. I think she showed me the reason for her ?throat of fire? Another photo shows two people standing taking pictures on the photo of on
