Oosterscheldekering or Oosterscheldedam: the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier, between the islands Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, peninsulas, former islands because of the dams, in the province of Zeeland. The storm surge barrier is the largest of the Dutch Delta Works that were started after the North Sea Flood of 1953 which killed around 1800 people in the south of Holland and Zeeland, the Dutch coastal provinces on the North Sea. Building was from 1976 to 1987. Length of the total dam including the two islands Neeltje Jans in the middle, and the small Roggenplaat to the right is about / 9km. There's an excellent visitor center on Neeltje Jans.
