Sea oats (Uniola paniculata) grow at the old state docks in Bayou La Batre, Ala. Dec. 4, 2010. Sea oats are a tall subtropical grass commonly found on beaches and sandy coastal areas. Sea oats play an important role in sand dune formation and prevention of beach erosion.
