Pro-minent critics have identified this scene withthe Temptation, of which we read in Gen. iii,though it is only fair to add that some scholarswill not admit the identification. From theearly paintings of the catacombs right downto rough sculptures of the Temptation, suchas that on the early nineteenth centurytombstone at Llangwm, near Raglan, therepresentations vary only in the minutestdetails.
