Design for Door Knocker, 16th century, Pen and brown ink, with brush and brown washes, with graphite underdrawing., 9 3/4 x 7 13/16 in. ( x cm.), Attributed to Étienne Delaune (French, Orléans 1518/19–1583 Strasbourg), Design for a door knocker. At bottom center a cartouche with a horse-head and acanthus leaves is depicted. Extending from its sides are thick leaves which curve outward and upward toward the central area where a dog is drawn at the center
