Their requirements are so simple âa good rich, deep soil, and an open sunny position which, however, is not absolutely necessary, as they thrive almost equally as well in a partly shaded position, and a liberal supply of water during their growing season being sufficient to give an r\ abundance and wealth of flowers, which rival the finest Roses â â¢JJ in coloring and fragrance, and produce during their flowering ^ season a gorgeous effect not equaled by any other flower. They '^â¢t are perfectly hardy, requiring no protection whatever, even in / the most severe climate, and once planted increase in beauty each JjB year. J An important point to observe in the planting of Herbaceous Peonies is not to plant too deep. The roots should be placed so that the crowns are covered with two inches of soil.
