The Passage du Gran Cerf in the 2nd arrondissement with a 12-meter high roof is the hishest of the covered passages in paris. The shops are adorned with wood animal heads including a stag. People can find hand-made jewelry, furniture and fashion shops. The Parisian covered passages were built between the late 18th century and the mid-19th century in order to house shops and restaurants. These arcades covered with glass roofs connecting two streets were an architectural innovation at that time. From the 150 galleries that existed in 1850 only 20 remain nowadays. Each passage has its own special character and they have become a typical Parisian feature.
