Piazza Mignanelli (Rome)

Towering high above Piazza Mignanelli just to the right of the famous Spanish Steps is the Colonna dell Immacolata, an ancient Roman column topped with a statue of the Virgin Mary. Pope Pius IX commemorated it in 1857 in a proclamation of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception.
