At thecenter of the wheel there is a square hole inwhich is loosely fitted a twisted square rod,and upon this rod, below the wheel, is placeda wooden sleeve, the bore of which is largeenough to allow the rod to be readily drawnthrough it. The wheel having been placed upon therod -as shown in the engraving—the wood-en sleeve is grasped between the thumb andfinger of one hand, the eye at the lower endof the rod is grasped by the other hand, andthe rod is drawn quickly downward, thusimparting to the wheel a very rapid rotarymotion which causes it to rise to a greatheight in the air as it leaves the rod. 360.
