Monument to Samuel de Champlain on the Terrasse Dufferin in central Quebec, CA. The 16m high monument was sculpted by Paul Chevre’ in 1898 and sits at the center of the North corner of the Terace Dufferin above the Saint Lawrence River. Samuel de Champlain, Samvel Champlain, was a French colonist that founded Quebec, and New France in 1608. The construction of the terrace, overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, in 1879 was overseen by Lord Dufferin, then governor-general of Canada. Beneath sections of the terrace are the remains of Saint Louis Forts as well as Château Saint-Louis.
