A Bird Men dances outside the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, December 11, 2007. "Bird Men" perform an ancient Totonacan ceremony asking for a good harvest and fertility, which originated in the Gulf of Mexico's Veracruz state. Hundred of thousands of Mexican pilgrims converged on the Basilica, bringing images to be blessed, as processions filled the streets for the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, when, according to tradition, the Virgin Mary spoke to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the Hill of Tepeyac in Mexico City, with instructions that the bishop build a church at the site of her appearance.
