F. guns, andone Gatling gun for the secondary battery. As Admiral Deweys flagship in the Battle of Ma-nila Bay, the Olympia shared in the honor of the ad-mirals notable victory. The next contract intrusted to the Union Iron Workswas that for the famous battle-ship Oregon. Much has been written about this vessel, and her picture is afamiliar one, both in this country and in Europe. Herkeel was laid on November 19, 1891, and she waslaunched on October 26, 1893. The date of completionand delivery to the government was July 7, 1896. The Oregon is 350 feet 9 inches long over all, 69feet 3 inches beam, 35 feet molded depth; mean draftof water. 24 feet; displacement, 10,288 tons, and herspeed on trial was knots, knots over thecontract speed.
