A sabre for a sapper of the Garde Impériale, France, circa 1820/30 Slightly curved, single-edged, saw-backed blade with fullers on both sides, a double-edged point, a partially worn-off maker's inscription, "Manuf. de Klingenthal - Coulaux ainé et " on the back, and a "G" (Directeur Guidonet?) stamped on the ricasso. Two-piece brass hilt with a rooster head pommel and lion head masks and quillon finials. Black leather scabbard (shrunken, some of the stitching has come open) with brass mountings. Length 91 cm.
