Blue plaque to commemorate Alan Mathison Turing, 1912-1954 , creator of computer science, code breaker and mathematician, reader in Mathematics, 1948-1954, University of Manchester. Former chess champion Garry Kasparov unveiled this blue plaque in June, 2012. Turing was a gay man who had consesual sex with a 19 year old man and was later convicted of "gross indecency" under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885. He died June 1954. An inquest determined his death to be a suicide. The half eaten apple by his bed which the inquest thought caused his death, was not tested for cyanide.
