Tkis trail,which has been called tke Iontiac tiail. runs northwestward and crosses the southboundary of Pontiac township, about one and a half miles nortkwest of Labyrinthlake, and a little less than a mile west of the southeast corner of the to])ogiaphy of Pontiac is much more rugged than is that of Ossian to ;^outh. There are several ])rominent hills se])arated by comparatively wide, andsometinus (lat. \alleys. the latter covered with clay, boukkr clay and more seldomsand. To tke nortk of Clarice lake—a beautiful sheet of clear water in the north-east part of the township—there is a jn-ominent range of hills across part of whichlocal fore»<t fires ha\e swej)t.
