OBSERVATIONS. As originally instituted by Linne, the genusof this name was extremely abundant in species,and although many divisions have been made byFabricius and others, the species are still nume-rous. As I adopt the genus, it corresponds withthat of Fabricius and Latreille, and with Cryptusas defined by Lamarck. These insects perform an important part inthe operations of nature, inasmuch, as they seemdestined to limit the increase of Lepidopterous PLATE XXII. insects, by destroying their larvae, so injurious tothe interests of agriculture.
