The Bulkeley High School for Boysis a fine stone building of generousand substantial architecture. It waserected in 1871 at a cost of Its founder, Leonard , was born in New London in1791. He died in 1849 and devisedthe greater portion of his property forthe founding and maintenance of afree high school for boys, to be calledthe Bulkeley School. The fund atthe time of the death of the legatorwas about ^21,000. which was allowedto accumulate until 1871, when it hadincreased to the very considerablesum of •t70,000, a sufficient amount 36.
