Ninot figure of a Clown in the Festival of the Fallas in Burriana Spain

The Fallas fiesta takes place in the Valencia area of Spain between the 15th and 19th March each year. This image was taken in the town of Burriana. The Fallas is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of San José (Saint Joseph) the patron saint of carpenters. The Fallas refers to both the celebration and the monuments constructed and then burnt during the celebration. The burning takes place on the 19th March and all but one of the ninots (voted for by the community) are burnt. Some of these monuments reach heights up to 20m. Each Falla Monuments consists of a number of ninots (Valencian for puppet or doll). This is one of the largest festivals held in Spain and attracts tourists from all over the world.
