Cemental dysplasia. Three dimensional coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of the jaw of a 45 year old woman with cemental dysplasia. This is an abnormality of the cementum, the bony substance that covers the root of the tooth. The solid cementum is replaced by weaker fibrous connective tissue, which then becomes calcified (shown by arrows). There are no symptoms. Cemental dysplasia is most common in middle-aged black women. The condition is self-limiting and no treatment is needed.
