Built in 1987 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the CCGS Ann Harvey is used for buoy tending, search and rescue and icebreaking in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region. Iin addition to its buoy tending, search and rescue, and icebreaking duties, it also is used for fisheries enforcement and marine navigational services construction. The 83 metre long diesel-electric vessel can store up to 780 tonnes of fuel. It also has a hangar to house two helicopters, and it can carry up to 17 tonnes of helicopter fuel. The Ann Harvey has a speed crane derrick with a safe working load of 20 tonnes, and two sea cranes with a safe working load of tonnes. It also carries a six-metre fast rescue craft with a quick launch and recovery davit launching system, and a self-propelled barge with its own launching mechanism.
