Reminiscences to the year 1857 . as created Baron of Gillesland. He died leav-ing a daughter, Margaret, as sole heir, and the barony thereby lapsed. Shemarried the Baron of Dacre and carried Gillesland into that family. The de Lucie daughters, wards of the original Thomas, married his twosons by a prior marriage, to-wit, Lambert, who married Annabelle, and Allan, who married Alice. Lambert had a son, Thomas, who took his mothersmaiden name of de Lucie and founded the noble family of de Lucie, whichended with the daughter Maud, who married (1) the Earl of Angus, (2) theEarl of Northumberland and died without heirs, so that the estate passed to thePercy family. There is reason to believe that the Moltons originated in History of Yorkshire, pp. 391-399, indicates as muchand gives an interesting pedigree, which shows that Hervey, son of Ketel, founded the Abby of Egleston in time of Henry II (1154-1189), and was livingin 1203 when he gave an estate to his son Alexander. The latter had a son,. Edwin L. Murphy, Jr. Thomas, who had a son, Thomas, called Lord of Molton in Yorkshire, and diedin 1240. He had a son, Thomas, who was Lord of Gillesland, and died in1271, leaving a son, Thomas, who had a son, Thomas, who died in 1291, leav-ing a son who was created a baron on August 26, 1307. This coincides with thepedigree of the Cumberland family. Mrs. Whitehead reports as follows: Abstract of North Carolina Wills, Duplin County. Will cf James Mol-ton.
