Gas cylinder delivery, 19th century. Illustration of a horse-drawn truck being used to transport cylinder of compressed coal gas. Produced by heating coal, this gas was one of the main fuels used in the 19th century. Artwork from volume 3 (1874) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
