The lion clawed at the buffalo's muzzle causing blood to spill down onto its face. SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK, ZAMBIA: SEE THE moment a lion was taken down after going head to head with a buffalo in a brutal fight that lasted an HOUR. In one image, a 420-pound lion clung onto a 1,900-pound buffalo, sinking its claws into the animal?s hide whilst being impaled by the buffalo?s horn in the process. In another, the bloodied lion lay on the floor in defeat as several of the buffalo gathered around him ? bringing the fight to a stalemate. Photographer Matt Armstrong-Ford (31) from the Isle of Bute, Scotland, captured the stunning images at the Shenton Safaris? Mwanga Bush Camp in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Matt stood just 100-foot away as the predator battled it out for an hour. Matt captured the images using his Canon 7D camera and his 100-400mm lens. Male buffalo horns fuse together in the centre creating a tough shield which is known as a ? They are considered to be one of the most dangerous animals in Africa.
