Joint Polar Satellite System-1 in Earth orbit, illustration. This satellite, operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is designed to provide forecasters with crucial environmental science data to provide a better understanding of changes in the Earth's weather, oceans and climate. It is the second of four JPSS satellites. This one was launched on 18 November 2017. It was renamed NOAA-20 on 21 November 2017.
