The image shows the ruins of the village of Bosechepe during World War One. Every building in the town was destroyed by German shell fire in an attempt to locate hidden batteries. The town is located about 3 miles behind the front lines and all roads leading to it are visible to the enemy, so curtains of canvas were used to conceal movements. The photo was taken by Pvt. Grunelle of the 8th C. on Aug. 20, 1918.
