SHBPARD. As I have seen nothing in the bee-jour-nals about operating a honey-extractor withan electric motor, I decided to send you aphotograph of my automatic four-frame ex-tractor equipped with a ^ H. P. electricmotor for power. Instead of using a verylarge pulley on the extractor shaft, I used acountershaft as shown. The pulley on themotor is 2 inches in diameter, which beltsto the 12-inch pulley on the small pulley on the latter is 3 inches, which belts to the 8-inch pulley on the ex-tractor shaft, this reduction being just aboutright for the speed of the motor. By this arrangement I still have the useof the idler for regulating the speed of theextractor, which I regard as very satisfac-tory. After most of the honey is out of thecombs and the speed of the reel is a littletoo high, I loosen the idler a notch, allow-ing the belt to slip sligh
