Delashmutt OSKALOOSA CITY. 563 it being the war session; lie waselected to the State Senate in1863, and served for 4 years; hewas again elected to the StateLegislature in 1869; he receivedthe appointment of Attorney-General of this State, in Febru-ary, 1872, to till vacancy occasion-ed by OConnors resignation;he was elected Attorney-Generalin fall of 1872, and again re-elected in 1874, and held thatoffice until January, 1877; at therecent election he was the choiceof the Republicans in this dis-trict for Representative in Con-gress, but declined the profferedhonor. Mr. Cutts entered uponhis career in life without funds,or favors by which to help him toposition, or pave his pathway tosuccess; he came to this place anentire stranger, without a person-al friend or acquaintance west of^the Mississippi river, and hy closeapplication to study, and untilingenergy and perseverance, he hasattained a deservedly high posi-tion in his profession; he marriedMiss Helen Frick from Sheboy-gan,
