CATTLEYA time to time we have given illustrations ofabnormal flowers of Orchids, and we are always gladof the opportunity to add to them, and give remarkswhich may tend to throw light on this interestingsubject. One thing about such freaks is nowtolerably clear, and that is, that in most cases wherethese abnormal flowers appear, the plant is likelyto produce similar flowers, and in some cases, theplant will produce no others. A singular instance ofthis kind appeared in anlinflorescence of Cattleyalabiata Mendeli sent us some time ago, with theinformation that it represented the flowerswhich the plant regularly produced. Very strangethey looked, for one expected to see the showylabellum which forms the chief attraction ofthe flower, but it was wanting in each example ;the flower being made up of the three sepals and twop
