Finding it difficult to continue the workin the new proportions which it had assumed^ this ladyoffered to make the whole mission over to us without chargeof any kind. AYe had no resources at the time; but en-. A FAMII^Y. couraged by a few kind friends whom I met at Oil City, Pa.,and trusting in God who had led us so wonderfully hitherto,I cabled to India to accept the offer. We have now twomissionaries stationed at Kolar, a prosperous orphanage withseveral Christian settlements in the vicinity, and a Christiancommunity of over five hundred. CENTRAL AND SOUTH INDIA. 459 AYe liave done less among the Tamil people in their owncountry than perhaps among any other of the leading Indianraces. We, have, however, Tamil work at Bangalore, andalso in the city of Madras, which is practically a Tamil work here, as elsewhere, is inseparable from the workwe are doing among the English-speaking people. Everyyear Tamil men are converted and unite with us, and wecould not give up such work if we tried. We have onlyto extend the work, strengthen our forces, and apply thesame methods which have been found successful elsewhere,in order to attain the measure of success am
