Megapode or Melanesian scrubfowl eggs are prized as food by Savo Islanders and naturalist guides from the Australian expedition ship Orion have been instrumental in helping them develop a plan for conservation of both eggs and birds. Each of the birds lays only one egg at a time and incubation requires 40 days. Islanders have been taking too many eggs, causing a decline in the bird population, Savo, Solomon Islands.
