San Francisco water . Aqua Claudia, one of the most famous of ancient Romes eleven aqueducts, was begun by the Emperor Caligula in A. D. 38, and completed by the Emperor Claudius in A. D. 52. Its farthest spring, the Fons Albudinus, was about forty-five miles from Rome.
