What makes the Lucca maze unique is the Latin inscription alongside the entrance side. This inscription reminds us that the labyrinth in Crete was built by Daedalus in order that anyone who entered would be trapped permanently inside. However, thanks to Ariadne and her thread, the Athenian Theseus was able to find his way out. The inscription [which is not complete] refers to the maze as a laberinthus, and implies that it is the same pattern as that used by Daedalus, in Crete.
