Hisministry continued for the same period as the episcopateof Bishop Hobart, who was consecrated in 1811, and whodied Sept., 1830, the year of Dr. Sayres prosperity of that episcopate seemed to be shared byGrace Church and parish, which were blessed with theministrations of a studious, devout, sympathetic and char-itable man, with social tastes and companionships, whichmade him an acceptable pastor and friend. Dr. Sayres did not cease his life of doing good after heretired from the rectorship. He lived in Jamaica, a be-nevolent, scholarly man, for thirty-seven years. He re-ceived his honorary degree at the age of seventy-six anddied at eighty years, on April 27, 1867. From these hepassed on to more liberal teachings of the EpiscopalChurch. But his mother was a strict and conscientiousFriend, and was so deeply grieved at her sons strayingfrom her guidance in his religious views that she couldnever attend his public ministrations, though otherwiseshe had all a mothers affection for him.
