The Make-A-Wish Foundation sponsored Smith’s visit to the ship. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a young boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt dream was to become a police officer. What had started as a small grassroots organization has now grown to a worldwide phenomenon reaching more than 144,000 children.
