Marigold Flower


Marigolds are not only ornamental plants but are also used as medicine due to its medicinal properties. They have anti-inflammatory properties and can treat pain and skin disorders as well. They are known for their bactericide and antiseptic properties. When the flowers are grounded it is known as Pyrethrum and can be used to kill fleas outside and inside the house and the yard, or around flowers and food crops. History Marigolds originated from South America and Mexico. Their scientific name is Tagetes. They come in bright colors of yellow, orange and burgundy. They are easy to grow and are sued to color food or dyes. They can be grown from 6 inches to 4 feet tall depending on the species. There are in fact four basic species of marigolds, French, triploids, African – Aztec and single. The single marigolds resemble the daisies, the French marigolds can produce large bloom of bright shades and the triploids are the hybrid of French and African marigolds. The African varieties can grow from 1 foot to over 3 feet tall and have flowers of 3 to 4 inches across. Identification Marigold is also known as Mary Gowldes, Caltha officinialis, marigold, pot marigold, Ruddes and Oculus Christis. They consists of light green leaves and the stems and leaves are used a pesticide. Marigold is the member of the aster or the daisy family. They include hundreds of varieties of flowering plants and are identified by their lacy, fiery colored flowers and aromatic foliage.
