Head as long as deep ; snout rounded, f length of head ; mouthsmall, subinferior, its width i to ^ length of head; teeth small, notched,5 in upper jaw, 6 in lower; nostrils on a line with lower borderof eye, nearer latter than end of snout; eye moderate, as long as or alittle shorter than snout, f interorbital width. Dorsal 30-36, its length Yvz. Marcusenius , after Peters (Eeise Mossamb.). |. 1\ to 1\ times in its distance from head. Anal 23-27, originatingbelow 8th to 12th ray of dorsal, equally distant from base of ventraland from base of caudal. Pectoral pointed, nearly as long as head,1^ times length of ventral, extending to base of latter or a little with obtusely pointed lobes. Caudal peduncle 2 to 2\ times aslong as deep, a little shorter than head. G5-T0 scales in lateral line,c,-^^ in transverse series on body, -^^^ in transverse series betweendorsal and anal, 12 or 14 round caudal peduncle. Dark olive orbrownish above, silvery white beneath.
