The photograph shows Private Frank Savicki of Infantry, 3rd Division, who was taken prisoner by the Germans southeast of Chateau Thierry, south of the river Marne on July 23, 1918. He escaped across the Swiss Border after being held captive for two months and fifteen days. Savicki was then kept in Laon for a month before being sent to the rear, where he was put to work on a farm with several Russian prisoners. The photo was taken by Sergeant on October 20, 1918.
