His Lordship had many yearsbefore forgotten what was popularly known as his he was not to be outdone, and he volunteered thefollowing answer — Well, I would say that the man performs hiscalling most effectually, who does it with ability and success. Theminister accepted the answer, and passed on to Mrs Jeffrey. Per-haps he did not quite realise the scope of the answer; possiblyhe did not wish to show his Lordships ignorance of the orthodox.
