The district is oneof the best situated in the Colony for the production of cerealcrops. It is well watered, and care is being taken that eachallotment shall have the means of irrigation. This locality is atpresent known as Dronk Vlei. The journey from Maritzburg to Polela can be accomplishedeasily within a day. The post cart fare ranges from £i to 208 £i los., and the trip can be recommended, not only as onecalculated to build up the health, but for the instruction whichis provided by every mile of country traversed.
