Diabetic foot ulcer
Diabetic foot ulcer in a homeless African-American male patient. Ulcers are a fairly common complication of diabetes as it can lead to neuropathy (nerve damage) and the breakdown of small blood vessels, both of which are risk factors for ulcers. Treatment is with antibiotics and regular cleansing of the wound.
