Daniel alwayslived in the house which is still standing—the northernmost ofthe three. Slavery existed in New York in those days, and inhis W\\\ Daniel disposed of four slaves. We have no record oiany notable events in his life, and believe that he lived as aquiet citizen. Not long ago we looked over his will and, fromthe expressions contained therein, we doubt not that he was apious. God-fearing man. The north room, now standing, wasadded to the house in Daniels day. Daniel had two brothers-in-law, Johannes Hardenburgh, Jr.,and John Cantine, who were colonels in the patriot army, andanother brother-in-law, Matthew Cantine, who was a memberof the Council of Safety, but he did not serve himself in thearmy and was too old in fact.
