Egan, former Presi-dent of the Board of Public Works, in the first Union Labor conven-tion. The only other nominee was Eugene E. Schmitz, who, receivinga majority of the votes of the delegates in the convention, was de-clared nominee of the Union Labor party and subsequently elected^layor of San Francisco.
