Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab)

Batavia, Illinois - The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), where scientists conduct basic research into the smallest building blocks of matter. A tunnel leads 350 underground to the MINOS cavern, where an intense bean of neutrinos travels 450 miles through the earth to the Soudan mine in northern Minnesota. Scientists compare the results from neutrino detectors in both locations.
